Part 2 – making GREEN work for you ‘[Series 1] Learn To Enjoy Colour Mixing with Paul Taggart’

YOU WILL DEFINITELY FIND YOURSELF WANTING TO WORK ALONG WITH Artist & Author Paul Taggart as he helps you discover the delight in achieving ninety-five percent of the colours you will ever need from A CORE PALETTE OF SIX COLOURS – see https://vimeo.com/ondemand/colourmixingseries1

Part 2 and you now move on to understanding how to identify VALUE and its role in achieving LIGHT & SHADE, in which GREEN is the governing secondary colour. Using simple diagrams and colour mixing practise pieces, created and filmed in real-time, Paul shows you how to how to make GREEN lighter and darker through different methods – BUT THE PURPOSE OF THIS VIDEO IS TO ENCOURAGE YOU TO PRACTICE THE ‘art’ of COLOUR MIXING, to get you to expand what you learn here and create even more, gradually changing colour mixes.

Learn these mixes and they soon become intuitive and as natural as knowing how to exploit a single brush, manipulate the brush-strokes and pressures on the brush, not to mention all the myriad hints, tips and techniques that you will be adding to your painting repertoire.

It is important to understand just how much you can be in control of mixing colours and how the possibilities are limitless, providing that you are shown how to exploit the colour circle and manipulate your paints and mixes.

Why fiddle around with a mass of tubes of paint, deciding what tube of colour to use and how to use it – when all you need are the six basic colours, squeezed out into the wells of your palette, at your fingertips, ready to use at a moment’s notice.

You will hear Paul say time and again that getting the ‘feel’ of the pigments which are in your six-colour tubes is also important, for they vary from manufacturer to manufacturer.

AS WITH ALL OF PAUL’S TUTORIALS – THIS IS PACKED FULL OF HINTS and TIPS, for it isn’t merely his demonstrations that matter, watch his approach, listen to Paul’s running commentary and you will not fail to gather much to make your experience of painting all the more enjoyable.

Making RED work for you – https://vimeo.com/ondemand/colourmixingred
Making BLUE work for you – https://vimeo.com/ondemand/ colourmixingblue

“Every artist develops their own palette of preferred colours, but to arrive at this selection requires knowledge of not only the available colours, but how colours work with each other to produce successful mixes.

Colour Mixing is every bit as important in making a composition work as thumbnails and perspective. With colour control you can communicate with your viewer, tell a story or evoke a mood – hence the phrase ‘to paint a picture’.

You would not be alone in thinking that colour mixing is a daunting prospect; every artist has been through this at some point – even professional artists such as myself. I guarantee however that it needn’t be so – for colour mixing is actually about some basic and simple principles”.

NOTE – although Artist & Author Paul Taggart uses watercolours for the mixes and diagrammatic demonstrations in this video THE PRINCIPLES FOR COLOUR MIXING ARE COMMON TO ALL MEDIA – watercolours are used here simply on practical grounds in relation to showing the colours.

COLOURS WILL VARY across the various devices on which this video is watched – so PLEASE DO NOT DESPAIR IF YOUR COLOURS ARE NOT EXACTLY AS THOSE SHOWN IN THIS TUTORIAL.

Part 3 – making PURPLE work for You ‘[Series 1] Learn To Enjoy Colour Mixing with Paul Taggart’

Part 3 and, as with Part 2, THE PURPOSE OF THIS VIDEO IS TO ENCOURAGE YOU TO PRACTICE THE ‘art’ of COLOUR MIXING, to get you to expand what you learn here and create even more, gradually changing colour mixes. Artist & Author Paul Taggart now moves on to the third governing principle in colour mixing – INTENSITY, in which, once again, PURPLE is the governing secondary colour.

You will come to recognise the critical importance of complementary colours and how this basic knowledge will put you in control of mixing colours and how the possibilities are limitless; providing that you are shown how to exploit the colour circle and manipulate your paints and mixes.Once you have watched and worked-along with Paul on this video, YOU WILL COME TO APPRECIATE The IMMENSE RANGE of COLOUR MIXES that are DIRECTLY IN YOUR CONTROL.

Learn these mixes and they soon become intuitive and as natural as knowing how to exploit a single brush, manipulate the brush-strokes and pressures on the brush, not to mention all the myriad hints, tips and techniques that you will be adding to your painting repertoire.

[Box-Set Trailer] Learn To Enjoy Colour Mixing [Metals] with Paul Taggart’ for Acrylics & Oils

TRY BEFORE YOU BUY …. watch our four FREE-TO-VIEW ‘ArtBytes from Paul’ in the Bonus Feature below, containing little gems from each lesson in this box-set.

Welcome to ‘Learn to Enjoy Colour Mixing – Metals’ with Paul Taggart. Although the three stand-alone workshops are demonstrated in acrylics the process is identical for oils, as Paul is using the traditional layering technique of working from dark-to-light.

This set of four videos is filmed in real-time, so that you can watch every colour mix, every stroke and every technique.

Red, White and Yellow Metals are currently available as three stand-alone workshops and we have filmed a dedicated fourth video, AN INVALUABLE COMPANION to demonstrate how to achieve each of the three principal metal colours – [1] Copper & Red Metals [2] Silver & White Metals [3] Gold, Brass & Yellow Metals.

YOU WILL DEFINITELY FIND YOURSELF WANTING TO WORK ALONG WITH PAUL as he helps you discover the delight in achieving ninety-five percent of the colours you will ever need from A CORE PALETTE OF SIX COLOURS.

Colour Mixing METALS – https://vimeo.com/ondemand/awwptcolourmixingmetals

“Every artist develops their own palette of preferred colours, but to arrive at this selection requires knowledge of not only the available colours, but how colours work with each other to produce successful mixes.

Colour Mixing is every bit as important in making a composition work as thumbnails and perspective. With colour control you can communicate with your viewer, tell a story or evoke a mood – hence the phrase ‘to paint a picture’.

You would not be alone in thinking that colour mixing is a daunting prospect; every artist has been through this at some point – even professional artists such as myself. I guarantee however that it needn’t be so – for colour mixing is actually about some basic and simple principles.”

PAUL STARTS OFF by reprising the basics of working with a core palette of six colours and how a limitless array of colour mixes can be achieved through exploiting primary, secondary, and complementary colour mixing. He reprises the essentials that will govern a required colour mix, explaining what to look for and how to achieve it.

PAUL THEN DEMONSTRATES HOW TO MIX THE VARIATIONS REQUIRED FOR ACHIEVING ‘RED’ METALS – showing how to identify the colours that make up the ‘local’ mix; gradually moving through the various mixes achieved through the use of complementaries – all of which are filmed in real-time, so that you can see the exact mixes as he makes them, before they are shown alongside each other in a progressive series of painted squares. He explains how the mixes can go wrong and what to do to correct them.

THIS PROCESS IS THEN REPEATED FOR EACH OF ‘WHITE’ METALS AND ‘YELLOW’ METALS – accompanied by Paul’s detailed demonstrations and running commentary.

THE ACCOMPANYING THREE STAND-ALONE WORKSHOPS are given over to a start-to-finish still-life study of a different object made from each of the three different coloured metals – ‘red’, ‘white’ and ‘yellow’.

Through his accompanying running commentary you will learn how to analyze the colours reflected on each object’s surface, influenced by its surroundings.

THESE ARE NOT MERELY TUTORIALS IN COLOUR MIXING – AS WITH ALL OF PAUL’S TUTORIALS, THEY COME PACKED WITH HINTS AND TIPS, not to mention A PLETHORA OF TECHNIQUES THAT WILL PROVE INVALUABLE IN YOUR DAY-TO-DAY PAINTING – all relayed in Paul’s accompanying RUNNING COMMENTARY.

FURTHERMORE – you will learn how the traditional technique of layering from dark to light brings richness and depth to your subject.
